Description
Nolvadex, also known by its generic name tamoxifen citrate, is a medication primarily used in the treatment and prevention of breast cancer. Each tablet contains 20mg of tamoxifen citrate. This selective estrogen receptor modulator (SERM) works by blocking the effects of estrogen in the breast tissue, thereby inhibiting the growth of cancer cells that are dependent on estrogen.
Nolvadex is often prescribed for both pre- and post-menopausal women with hormone receptor-positive breast cancer. It may also be used to reduce the risk of breast cancer in women at high risk of developing the disease.
In addition to its anticancer properties, Nolvadex is sometimes used off-label in men to treat gynecomastia (enlargement of breast tissue).
