Proscar 5 mg (finasteride) is a prescription medication used to treat benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) in men. This medication comes in the form of an oral tablet and is typically taken once a day with or without food. The usual starting dose is one 5 mg tablet taken once daily, with or without meals. The recommended duration of treatment is 6 months or longer. This medication should not be taken by women. Possible side effects include decreased sex drive, physical or mental changes, and chest pain.
